NEW YORK, NY ― October 16, 2018 ― The BMI Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of the 16th annual peermusic Latin Scholarship competition: a program open to student songwriters and composers of original Latin music. In partnership with peermusic, the competition awards a $5,000 scholarship for the best song or instrumental composition submission in any Latin genre. Acclaimed Latin artist and BMI songwriter Gloria Trevi serves as honorary spokesperson for the competition.
One of the few distinctions of its kind, the award was established in 2003 through the generosity and vision of peermusic CEO, Ralph Peer II. For over a decade, the program has nurtured promising musicians who have gone on to distinguish themselves in the fields of television, film, recorded music, and concert performance.
Carolina Arenas, Head of Latin America Sales at Audio Network, is the Director of the peermusic Latin Scholarship competition. College students in the United States and Puerto Rico who are between the ages of 17 and 24 are eligible to apply. All words and music must be original, and online applications must be completed and submitted no later than January 1, 2019, 11:59 pm EST.
