Fito Páez

Argentine-born Rodolfo “Fito” Paez has been creating music since he was a teenager, forming his first band Staff at the age of 13. After playing solo gigs in pubs in his hometown of Rosario and touring nationally with artists such as Charly Garcia, Fito was ready to create his first album. With the help of prominent Argentine musicians such as Tweety Gonzalez and Fabián Gallardo, Del ’63 was released in 1984.

With the album’s release came acclaim for Fito’s songwriting skills, and the opportunity to record three more albums in the next three years – Giros in 1985, La La La in 1986 and Ciudad de Pobres Corazones in 1987. La La La was a collaboration with Luis Alberto Spinetta, member of Peermusic recording group Pescado Rabioso and considered one of the fathers of Argentine rock.

The release of the album Ey! had Fito working again with a variety of Latin artists such as Daniel Columbres, Guillermo Vadalá, Osvaldo Fattoruso and the brass section of the group Afrocuba. Tercer Mundo, released in 1990, demonstrated Fito’s social conscience regarding poverty and exploitation in the third world.

El Amor Después del Amor, released in 1992, marked a large commercial success for Fito, selling over 750,000 copies. His following album, Circo Beat had an accompanying album, Circo Beat Brazil, containing Brazilian remixes of Circo’s songs.

After a couple of live albums in the ‘90s, Fito was recognized for his contributions to Latin rock with two awards for the album Abre at the first annual Latin Grammy Awards in 2000. He followed up by winning another Latin Grammy seven years later for his album El mundo cabe en una canción.

Fito also has ventured into film industry, directing ex-wife Celia Roth and Gael Garcia Bernal in “Vidas Privadas” whose script and soundtrack he also wrote. His second film, “¿De quién es el portaligas?,” which he also wrote, directed and produced, was shot in 2006. He has also appeared in such films as “La peli” and “Todo sobre mi madre.”

In March 2010, Fito released his album Confiá. It reflects a fresh blend of poetry and music that, while recorded in various studios throughout Argentina and Brazil, sounds like it was recorded live. Co-produced by Fito Páez and Mariano López, the album has already had a successful single “Tiempo al teimpo” reach the top of the radio charts around Latin America in February.
