Burbank, CA (November 8, 2018) – Peermusic has signed Latin artist and songwriter Mala Rodríguez to an exclusive global co-publishing agreement as announced today by Kathy Spanberger, President & Chief Operating Office – peermusic Anglo American Region and Yvonne Drazan, Vice President, Latin Division, West Coast, peermusic. The multiple Latin GRAMMY-winning, Barcelona-based artist has earned unanimous praise for her socially-minded lyrics and her unabashed on-stage persona.

“Mala is the impressive combination of a vanguard artist who has inspired a world-wide audience and achieved Platinum success,” said Kathy Spanberger. “She’s breaking records doing things her own way and people are paying attention. It’s exciting to be a part of her journey.”

“Mala is a welcome voice and a catalyst for change in the Latin Pop & Urban markets,” said Yvonne Drazan. “She has built her career by challenging and overcoming social constructs and her voice as a songwriter is groundbreaking. The entire world-wide team at Peermusic is thrilled to work with Mala and we look forward to accomplishing big things together.”

“I am very excited to receive such a warm welcome from my new publishing home, Peermusic. I am honored and proud to be a part of the family,” said Mala Rodríguez. “I am profoundly grateful to three beautiful and powerful women, Kathy, Yvonne and Mary Megan for having confidence in me and I send them each love and respect. I am so happy to be here and excited about what’s ahead -- we are just getting started!”

Always breaking barriers, Mala Rodríguez was the first (and only) female artist to win both Best Urban Album and Best Urban Song at the Latin GRAMMYS. Her extensive catalogue has garnered her a multitude of fans, including Barack Obama, who featured Mala in his Summer Spotify playlist. Mala Rodríguez has toured globally and has collaborated with a range of artists that include Romeo Santos, Nelly Furtado, Calle 13, Ibeyi, and Tego Calderon among others and her recent featurings this summer with Juan Magan (“Usted”), Beatriz Luengo (“Caprichosa”) which went Platinum and with the critically acclaimed Ibeyi (“Me Voy”).

Mala marked her return in 2018 with the feminist anthem “Gitanas.” Pitchfork said of the track: Her voice is bold and unflinching, when she boldly asks “Quien me protege?” (“Who protects me?”) you can almost feel the ground quake beneath her feet. Mala already knows the answer to her question. Without missing a beat, she cries out, “Yo!” (“Me!”), daring anyone to doubt her.

NPR recently named one of her singles as one of the “200 Greatest Songs by 21st Century Women.” Her latest single, “Contigo” (feat. StyloG) has quickly received millions of views, and Billboard calls it “a sensual reggaeton-meets-dancehall jam for lovers.”

Peermusic’s deal with Rodriguez is the latest in a string of Latin publishing agreements signed by the company. As part of their ongoing investment in Latin music, earlier this month the company expanded their existing deal with legendary artist and songwriter, Gloria Trevi to encompass the majority of her catalog. The company also recently signed Latin Rock group Molotov to a worldwide deal; hit songwriter and artist Jorge Luis Chacin; Billboard’s “Latin Artist on the Rise”, Lupita Infante and  Columbian recording artists El Freaky and Jona Camacho, after seeing them perform at the Bogotá Music Market (BOmm) music conference;
