We compiled our list of Latin Artists to Watch 2019 by looking at emerging trends in music, examining distinct Latin markets, taking cues from our listenership and leveraging industry insight. These are the talented artists we believe will be driving Latin music forward in the year to come.
Lupita Infante
Equally impressive is the rise of LUPITA INFANTE, daughter of Pedro Jr. and granddaughter of Pedro Sr. Boasting a distinct aesthetic all her own, Lupita infuses rancheras and boleros with her brand of sophistication, style and class, an update tailor-made for new audiences. For a better sense of her sound, check out her single “El Amor de Mi Vida,” and be on the lookout for a full-length effort in early 2019.
Manu Manzo
A growing number of Latin artists are embracing an R&B aesthetic in their music. In a way, this can be seen as a softening of the trap and reggaetón movements — the natural progression of urban music, similar to what has occurred in the wider pop landscape. Yet for many artists, it is also reflective of an ongoing affinity for R&B and soul music that can be traced back to the 1990s, the early 2000s and beyond.
Miami-based singer MANU MANZO is a great example of this trend. With a sound that is at times reminiscent of Sade or the Brand New Heavies yet sleek and contemporary in its realization, Manzo has carved out a sonic lane all her own. The release of her Intermedio EP this past summer positions Manzo to turn heads in 2019 as she blazes a trail for non-formulaic new Latin.
