Stephanie Acosta wins 2021 BMI Foundation peermusic Latin Scholarship

The BMI Foundation has announced Stephanie Acosta as the winner of the 2021 peermusic Latin Scholarship competition for her song "Latinos."

"This award motivates me to believe in myself and to continue working hard for all my goals. The peermusic Latin Scholarship will allow me to continue my musical education and journey at Berklee to become the artist of my dreams. Thank you so much for this opportunity!"

Growing up both in Puerto La Cruz (VZ) and Bogotá (Col), and born in London (UK); Colombian singer-songwriter and producer Stephy, found her voice throughout her passion towards Latin rhythms and music. Currently studying Contemporary Writing and Production with a double in Music Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music, Stephy has been open to diverse musical genres that have influenced her writing and creativity. Stephy aims to create contemporary Latin Pop and Traditional Latin Music for the current younger generations. “Latinos” (urban salsa) is a very special song that was created to share everything that makes the Latin community unique and joyful and for each Latino to feel proud of their own culture and people. Stephy is currently working on her new musical projects and wants to continue writing music she feels passionate about and strongly impacts each listener.

The peermusic Latin Scholarship was established in 2003 through the generosity and vision of peermusic CEO Ralph Peer II, for the purpose of encouraging the next generation of Latin composers. The contest is open to students between the ages of 17 and 24, who are enrolled in any college or university located in the United States and Puerto Rico. A $5,000 scholarship is presented annually for the best original song or instrumental composition in any Latin genre.
