Tim Baker reveals another preview single, “Echo Park” taken from his recently confirmed new album, The Festival, coming out on October 21 via fellow singer/songwriter and friend, Donovan Woods' label, End Times Music. The new LP, Tim's sophomore release follows his acclaimed 2019 solo debut, Forever Overhead  voted “Folk Album Of The Year” by Exclaim! and “Album of The Year” in 2019 by CBC Music.

“This is a simple song about moving from Newfoundland to Los Angeles, losing track and getting lost in all the clear skies and windless days,” recalls Tim. “Waiting for a big break that never seems to come, yearning for it, and of course, in turn, for your home so unlike it, so far away. I wrote this song in almost one single sitting in a rare hotel room to myself, somewhere in the sandy southwestern states, on tour with Hey Rosetta, years ago.”

You can see Tim's high-flying video for the song, above and HERE. Tim explains, “Since it’s a song all about being buoyed up by winds of change and hope through heavy homesickness, I really wanted to film myself singing it while hang-gliding. When in Florida visiting family, I noticed boats parasailing back and forth along the beach everyday. I called around and found one company (with the stars and stripes chute to boot) whom I convinced to let me fly with a guitar and have my brother film me on his drone and whattayaknow it actually worked! Here is the cinematic magic from that hour on the gulf.”

The internationally celebrated singer/songwriter, award winning indie-rock band-leader (Hey Rosetta!), and 2020 JUNO award ‘Songwriter of The Year’ nominee, is set to play Americana Fest this week and an extended list of shows carry through the fall, featuring a headline show at Massey Hall on December 9. Tim has partnered with the PLUS1 Climate Fund so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting grassroots organizations working to mitigate the current climate crisis and build a sustainable future for all. Tickets are available via timbaker.net.

“Writing The Festival saved my life,” says Tim. “I could immerse myself in a different world. It gave me a reason to go on, something to hold onto.”

As Tim retreated to the rugged and familiar shores of Newfoundland and Labrador in the midst of the global pandemic, he reflected on the life he once knew. Deflated, troubled and sheltered in place on a far-flung island in the North Atlantic, he recalled the blur of stage lights, thousands and thousands of people, colours and urban cacophony coursing through his veins from years of touring. He also meditated on trauma and the ongoing climate change crisis. Admittedly, he felt pretty existential, depressed and defeated at first.

Like so many of us who faced our own realities, and narcissism (having no one to share a laugh with, or perform for), Tim began feverishly writing. Dozens of new songs came out of him. During the ongoing lockdowns, the only thing that kept him going was the notion of a faraway feeling of someday reconnecting and returning to a form of celebration. Writing and then recording The Festival (with trusted collaborator Marcus Paquin in isolation at The Fogo Island Inn) kept him afloat in a time when the entire world felt adrift.

Against all odds, Tim remains a prolific wild-eyed dreamer. In 2022, he has returned with The Festival, a sonic embrace, a call in for love, and a cry out for connection. He wants us to bring our pain and suffering, and align it all with melody. The Festival is a polychromatic album of redemption, joy, release, and intrinsic connection.
