Press Release
Today, Tim Baker Releases his new album, The Festival. This is Tim’s sophomore release and follows his acclaimed 2019 solo debut, Forever Overhead, voted “Folk Album Of The Year” by Exclaim! And “Album of The Year” in 2019 by CBC Music. Powered by the idea of connection, and made in the most isolating of environments, Tim spent each day creating his own vision of what The Festival could be, one he hoped to eventually share with fans and friends, once again in open rooms and in jubilant celebration.

This yearning for togetherness shines through in the official video for “Some Day” as it makes its YouTube debut today at 12 pm ET. “This song is very simply about the desire to start again one day, somewhere new, where you can be a better version of yourself,” says Tim. Of the video he notes: “A staggeringly ambitious bit of fun dreamt up with director Sean Cullen. Please enjoy his wild mind and all the hard work of Daniel Pianezza & the folks at breathe entertainment. It was a long, hot day and big thanks to the thousands of extras for coming out:)”

Tim will play an intimate and acoustic in-store session tonight, October 21, at Toronto’s idyllic and charming Tiny Record Shop at 7:00 pm ET. Tim will host another in store performance and signing at Fred’s Records at 1:00 pm in St. John’s on October 23. You can hear Tim on CBC ‘q’ with Tom Power airing on October 31, 2022.

Exclaim!’s album review notes: “Full of impressive arrangements and a sense of freedom, The Festival feels playful and experimental – a new side of Baker that feels care-free and celebratory while still tugging gracefully at the heartstrings.”

Tim has a significant North American fall tour planned starting in November. For the tour tim has partnered with PLUS1 Climate Fund so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting grassroots organizations working to mitigate the current climate crisis and build a sustainable future for all. Tickets are available via timbaker.net

Tim is an internationally celebrated singer/songwriter, award winning indie-rock band-leader (Hey Rosetta!), and 2020 JUNO award “Songwriter of The Year” nominee from Newfoundland and Labrador. Over the pandemic Tim returned home from Toronto and embarked on making The Festival, initially in the then deserted Fogo Island Inn. “Writing The Festival saved my life,” says Tim. “Icould immerse myself in a different world. It gave me a reason to go on, something to hold onto.”
Like so many of us who faced our own realities, and narcissism (having no one to share a laugh with, or perform for), Tim began feverishly writing. Dozens of new songs came out of him. During the ongoing lockdowns, the only thing that kept him going was the notion of a faraway feeling of someday reconnecting and returning to a form of celebration.

Against all odds, Tim remains a prolific wild-eyed dreamer. In 2022, he has returned with The Festival, a sonic embrace, a call in for love, and a cry out for connection. He wants us to bring our pain and suffering, and align it all with melody. The Festival is a polychromatic album of redemption, joy, release, and intrinsic connection.
