The track also earns Harv and Shndo (real names: Bernard Harvey and Luis Martinez Jr.) their first No. 1 as producers on any Billboard chart.
"I'm so grateful to see we're No. 1 in the world with Justice and 'Peaches'!" Harv tells Billboard. "I've only dreamed of this moment as a kid coming from Kansas City, and to finally hit the top feels incredible and overwhelming in the best way. Producing 'Peaches' was a whirlwind in itself."
Harv says that the production for "Peaches" first came together when he saw an Instagram post of Bieber playing a melody on piano.
"At the same time, Shndo sent me an MP3 of Bieber's IG. That same day, we linked at the studio, produced it out and sent it back to Justin to re-cut the hook and verse. Maybe two hours later, Justin FaceTimed me saying he got Giveon on the second verse, and a couple weeks later we added Daniel Caesar to knock it all the way out the park. I can't thank Justin and the entire team enough for all the heart, soul and hard work that went into this project."
Harv began working with Bieber in 2010 and has since produced four of his Hot 100-charting hits:
"Forever," feat. Post Malone & Clever (co-produced with Poo Bear; No. 24 peak, February 2020)
"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" (No. 61 peak, January 2021)
"Peaches," feat. Daniel Caesar & Giveon (co-produced with Shndo; No. 1 debut, April 2021)
"Somebody" (co-produced with Skrillex and Ilya; No. 91 debut, April 2021)
For Shndo, "Peaches" earns him his first entry on any Billboard chart as a producer. He has also produced songs for Chris Brown, Lupe Fiasco and Ozuna, among others.
The weekly R&B Songwriters and R&B Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot R&B Songs chart. As with Billboard's yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).
