peermusic Latin America Invests in Mexico Talent With A String of New Signings

peermusic, the world’s largest global independent music publishing and neighbouring rights company with 39 offices in 32 countries, has signed AQUIHAYAQUIHAY, Un León Marinero, and Foudeqush to exclusive, worldwide publishing deals as announced today by Elizabeth Rodda, President, Latin America and Global Society Relations, peermusic. The deals were signed by peermusic Mexico and encompass existing song catalog and future works. 

Elizabeth Rodda commented: “Mexican music has long had an immeasurable cultural impact locally and across the region but even more so in the last few years,  as it has proven its ability to sit on the top of popular Latin and international  music charts, by paying respect to its traditional roots while incorporating modern influences to blend and create new genres. AQUIHAYAQUIHAY, Un León Marinero, and Foudeqush have all created their own lanes, making them incredibly unique, while championing the sounds that makes the Mexican music scene so revered, multi-layered, and multi-generational. We could not be happier to welcome these truly one-of-one talents to our peermusic global roster, and to continue with this tradition of protecting and advancing Latin songwriters.”

AQUIHAYAQUIHAY (JayleeNeqerPHYNXZizzy, and Nelson) have turned the Mexican music scene on its head, and are driven to explore R&B en español in their music. The group has pioneered M-Pop (Mexican Pop), merging the sounds they grew up listening to like Hip-Hop and R&B with Latin tythms and global trends. AQUIHAYAQUIHAY's journey began in early 2016, reaching its final form in April with the addition of the last member. Rooted in humble beginnings and real-life experiences, these versatile artists sing, write, produce, compose, and unleash their creativity with each release. They have reconstructed the "Boyband" archetype in Mexico and the United States, leading the charge in the M-Pop movement. In May of this year, AQUIHAYAQUIHAY released their third studio album ojala estuvieras aqui. The first single, "Domingo," features acclaimed Mexican artist Ximena Sariñana. Alongside the release, they gave a headline performance at Mexico city’s Pepsi Center with guests artists YOSHI, BeatBoy & Suei. Beyond their musical pursuits, AQUIHAYAQUIHAY introduces DROPOUT, their apparel and merchandise brand, a nod to their cult classic debut album. 

Un León Marinero is a Mexican singer songwriter hailing from the city of San Luis Potosí Un León Marinero is part of a new wave of Latin folk artists emerging in Mexico. Among his most notable collaborations is “Por ti me guedo en San Luis”, with his compatriot, Kevin Kaarl, which has more that 15 million streams and more than one million views on YouTube. He has been sharing the stage with Kaarl, Ed Maverick, Andrés Obregón, amongst other artist sweeping this genre. The sound of his music is as local as it is universal.  

Foudeqush is a Mexican artist, composer, performer and producer. She began her music career with her side project KiddieGang, a group formed at the end of 2017 in Monterrey, NuevoLeón. In 2020,  she became a solo artist and by 2022 Foudeqush had garnered international fans and commercial impact when “Con La Brisa” (co-writeen and recorded by Foudeqush and Ludwig Göransson) appeared on the soundtrack to the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. “Con La Brisa” has nearly 100 million streams on Spotify alone. In 2024, Foudeqush released her EP ANGELA, continuing to expand the limits of her artistic expression, playing between genres such as drill, uk garage, club and dnb. Foudeqush is signed to peermusic via its joint venture with Fonetica. 

The signings follow a series of recent successes for peermusic Latin America. Earlier this year, peermusic Spain and peermusic Chile signed renowned and award-winning Chilean producer and songwriter, Vladi Cachai to a worldwide deal encompassing his entire song catalog and future works. In 2023, peermusic named Elizabeth Rodda President, Latin America and Global Society Relations, responsible for overseeing peermusic’s Latin initiatives and repertoire across South America, Mexico and Central America. In the region, peermusic has local offices and staff in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, and additionally administers the territories of Belize, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay and Uruguay.
